Eagle Hill Farm.

Introduction

Eagle Hill Farm grows haskap berries in Crooked Creek, in the Peace Country of northern Alberta, and turns them into small batch juices, jams, syrups and chocolate by hand. Until this year the farm lived on Facebook alone. It wanted a website to reach further, one that could sell a fruit most people have never tasted.

The problem

Before anyone orders a haskap product, they need to know what a haskap is, and why this one is worth trying.

A Facebook page reaches the people who already follow you. It does not show up when someone searches for haskap products, and it gives a growing product range nowhere to live.

Haskap is a hard sell online. Most people in North America have never heard of it, and a list of products does nothing for a berry nobody can picture.

A farm also changes fast. New products, market days and new stores carrying the range all move through the season, and the site has to keep up without a developer in the loop.

What changed

Eagle Hill Farm has a site that explains the berry, shows off the range and stays current, with the family holding the keys.

The site opens with the berry itself: what it tastes like, why it thrives in the cold Alberta climate, and why it carries more antioxidants than a blueberry. The collection follows, with every product named, described and priced.

Order Now opens a short order request that goes straight to the farm, so a small operation can take orders without running a full online store.

Products, recipes, stockist locations and market events all live in Sanity, a content editor set up so the family can update the site themselves, with Sixo hosting and managing the site behind it.

It is built on Astro and served from Cloudflare, so it loads quickly on a phone, including the one someone pulls out at a farmers market stall.
